Dr. Salas is a board-certified psychiatrist with additional certification in child and adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. Dr. Salas moved to Beaufort with her husband, Oscar, in 2010. Dr. Salas’ primary practice is at Palmetto Center of Psychiatry in Port Royal, SC. In addition, she supports the delivery of psychiatric services on a part–time basis at Beaufort–Jasper–Hampton Comprehensive Health Services. She is often retained as an expert witness on a variety of issues pertaining to the overlap of mental health issues as they pertain to the judicial system.
Dr. Salas uses a biopsychosocial model for understanding the complexities of patient concerns and struggles. She considers how past experiences influence and contribute to a person’s interpretation of their current situation and relationships. Dr. Salas collaborates with local therapists to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for addressing a person’s needs.
Outside of her role as a psychiatrist, Dr. Salas enjoys gardening, yoga, and traveling to spend time with her family. She is often found piddling around in the garage with Oscar where she helps out by holding parts and retrieving tools as he designs, engineers, and builds custom motorcycles.
